Fortune Cookie

The waiters and waitress were scurrying about the tables delivering food and busing plates. John threw the cookie and the fortune on the table and set straight up in his chair. His eyes darting in all directions. “Why would someone be after me? I’ve done nothing!” he thought. “Is that guy watching me,” he mouthed.
“Hey,” he called raising his hand. The waitress walked over to his table.
“Yes, Sir?” she said.
“Who gave you this cookie?” John asked.
“I don’t know what you mean sir, the cookie was in the bowl,” she said, raising her eyebrow.
“Okay, never mind. Here’s twenty, keep the change,” he handed her the bill and loudly pushed the chair out from the table. He rushed to the car and locked the doors. “No one is following me, maybe it was a joke from the fortune people,” he exhaled and relaxed, but still wary. “This is no way for a man to spend his birthday, all alone and frightened into a heart attack.”
He drove into his garage and quickly closed the door. John had constantly watched the traffic to see if he was being followed. “You are being ridiculous,” he scolded. “Marge will be home later tonight from her business trip and all will be right.” He slid his key into the door lock and pushed the door open. He backed into the entry way, taking one last look around before closing the door and sliding the dead bolt into place.
He turned, stepped… “SURPRISE!!!!” the room erupted in gaiety.
John clutched his chest and fell to the floor.
