The Week's Family

Sunday and Monday were married in July of 2000. They bought a house in the middle of a great grass field, from an old man with a cane who couldn’t climb the many flights of rickety stairs. Each floor had its own unique shade of green inside and out.  Over the next fifteen years they had five children, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Each child occupied their own floor with the family living quarters in the middle.
Saturday before last, a family meeting was called. The entire family met in the hunter green family room. Sunday and Monday announced they were pregnant again and the baby would be born around the first of the year.
“But mummy and daddy, what shall we name the new Week’s member?” asked Wednesday. The other children stared in bewilderment.
“Well, we thought we would name the new baby January after your maternal grandfather, January Month,” Monday suggested. The perfect family nodded their approval and congratulated the happy couple.

I loved this uniquely written, paranormal romance - so rare to find one written from the man's perspective! I downloaded this book to my Kindle but, after reading it, I would SERIOUSLY have paid more than $2.99. Might want to raise the cost to $9.99 or even $15.99 so the price reflects that it's a really great read!

Said the Spider to the Fly...

My home is finally complete, every strand in place and perfectly attached to the eaves. Now, to sit and wait. “I sure am hungry. I did a great job! Look how it shimmers from the dew in the morning light,” the spider gazed all around, admiring her work. “This waiting is endless… Oh, wait I see a fly. Come on little fly. You look juicy enough to eat, hehe! Come on, come on, almost here. And… snap you are mine,” she cheered.

“Damn, what did I fly into? It’s sticky! The more I move the more tangled I get. What is that coming toward me? It’s ugly with eight legs and it’s just walking on these sticky filaments. Wait! Wait! Leave me alone…” the fly screamed.

“Stop moving you are tearing up my new home,” the spider squealed. “I can’t believe I’m talking to my lunch… Oh I’m hungry,” the spider spoke lightly.

“Hungry? You can’t eat me!” the fly cried.

The gap between spider and fly grew smaller and smaller. The spider pounced! A solid stream of water hit them, spraying the web from its corner of the patio and washing the fly and spider into the grass.

The spider rolled onto her stomach in time to hear the fly buzz overhead shrieking in laughter.

An Apple a Day

An Apple a Day
James hated clearing the weeds out of his section of the family’s small apple orchard. His father considered it his weekly chore. He’d argued that weed killer could do the job of a whole crew of gardeners, but ‘it wasn’t organic’. And of course his brother, already had his portion scrubbed clean, not a weed in sight.
James grabbed his hula hoe and headed out. It was hot and to make things worse the trees had just been watered, making the weeds harder to separate out of the mud. But, Friday was coming and he had to complete the task if he was going to attend the football game and dance afterwards, with Karly. He was bent over shaking wet dirt off of a clump of spurge, thinking about the brilliant blue eyes surrounded by the dark, long lashes and creamy perfect skin. She hadn’t noticed him, but she would, if she showed up. “Maybe I ought to ask her to the dance tomorrow in English class?” he rolled his eyes, noticing a small foot standing on a limb high up in the tree.
“Hey, you up there! What do you think you’re doing?” called James. A set of brilliant blue eyes surrounded by thick, long dark lashes peeked through the branches and leaves. His breath sucked in and held. She smiled a big, cheesy grin. “Karly!? Get down here! You can’t be up there,” James grumbled, feeling like his father.
“Oh, what do you care? I’m hungry and my brother and sister haven’t eaten all day. Just let me get this one last apple. It’s the ripest, reddest one I’ve seen. I bet it is crisp and sweet, my mouth is watering just thinking about it,” she said, defying him.
“No, it’s not safe. What if you fall?” his heart was pounding.
“You worry too much…” she said, just as her toe slipped off the branch. “Oops, maybe you’re right,” she giggled, stabilizing herself. She climbed down. She had a cloth grocery bag hanging from her should half full of apples. “I guess these will have to do,” she grinned with a sigh.
“You know that is stealing?” James huffed.
“They have plenty and won’t miss a dozen apples, besides I’ve seen more than this lying on the ground rotting. What’s it to you anyway? You going to rat me out?” she stared, standing toe-to- toe with him.
“Where do you live? My dad may want to have a discussion with your father,” James was sounding more and more like his father. What did he care if she swiped a couple of apples… it was Karly!
“Your Dad? So this is your orchard… that explains it,” she snarled. “Let’s go, but it will be hard for him to talk to any of my parents… unless he has a mind to drive north to the prison.” James stared dumbfounded. “I don’t suppose he has a job that needs doing? I’ll be happy to work for these apples,” she chattered softening her tone.
James shook his head and stopped in his tracts, “Just go and if you need anything else please come and ask. I don’t want you to get hurt or break a branch. Okay, promise?” he said to her. She beamed and turned to run.
“Thank you!” she called over her shoulder.
“I mean it, ask me for anything,” he yelled back. “What is wrong with me? Why didn’t I ask her to the dance,” he whispered, slapping his forehead.
