You Arrive at Home
Carlotta opened the front door and stepped through the threshold. A shiver crawled up her spine as a hint of aftershave she didn’t recognize wafted across her nose. And where was the dog? She hadn’t greeted her at the door! She left the keys in the front door lock, dropped her purse on the floor, and opened her phone, dialing 911.
“I just walked in my house and it doesn’t feel right. And my dog is missing!” she added shakily.
“Ma’am do you see anything out of place?” the operator asked.
“No…, but I’m afraid to go any farther.”
“Can you get a neighbor or someone to investigate with you?”
“I don’t know… maybe. I’m just going in,” she decided.
“No ma’am we don’t recommend that!”
A scream reverberated through the receiver and the phone could be heard hitting the floor. “Ma’am! Hello! Are you there? Hello?” the 911 operator said calmly, but she also was advising authorities. “Ma’am if you can hear me the police are in route!”
