Upside Down

The storm was brutal last night. We'd all prepared to die with the mammoth waves approaching our sailing vessel. The crew and ship spun, twisted, and rolled in every directions. In the morning light, we cheered that the ship had made it, but sitting on the horizon were majestic buildings reaching for the sky. The sight was too much for some of my fellow sailors. They leaped into the choppy sea never to be seen again. I stood in the crow's nest mesmerized. What were they? Where did they come from? Better yet... Where was I?

 TD Cooper The fog swirled, rising to obscure the morning sun. Giant sycamore leaves flutter through the air, cluttering the stark parking lot where a buggy sat unaccompanied. A forgotten baby doll lay on the ground, discarded nearby, and a lone bird stood watch over it all atop the carriage handle. Nothing could be heard accept for the coos of an infant inside the pram.

I trembled not from the cold, crisp air, but from the proximity to the cemetery beyond the wrought iron fence. I’d made it through another night, because I hadn’t trusted anything or anyone that was out of the ordinary, and the scene before me was not ordinary…

The morning sun lit the sky orange. I stood at the red light with rain dripping off my nose and a smile on my face. I was mesmerized, where I came from it seldom rained. “This is glorious!” I said, twirling until I saw the sea of dome shaped canopies coming to swallow me up. The really sad part, I thought, was that the people rarely noticed the sky or the rainbow as they scurried to work, oblivious under their shields.
