Platitudes…
Johnny sat in the classroom, wishing he was outside. He
stared longingly out the window into the beautiful, sun filled garden. His
English class had become redundant and predictable. “Oh Professor, must we endure
one more platitude? ‘Everything happens for a reason…,’ ‘If at first you don’t
succeed…,’ And ‘Pretty is as pretty does’. I always wanted to say, ‘Pretty is
as long as Hollywood agrees’. Can’t we have one lecture without…,” Johnny stopped
in mid-sentence, looking up to see the professor and the entire class silently
watch him tap his pencil eraser on the desktop. He hadn’t realized his voice
had carried clear to the front of the room. He frowned, flushing a nice pink,
“Sorry professor!”
