Immortalizing Children
The paint lay unattended on the porch and mom’s masterpiece hung on the easel, while she went indoors to answer the phone. Jenny motioned to her younger twin brothers and two year old cousin to come and immortalize the whitewashed house. After all they’d stamped their hands in wet cement and Mom was pleased. Jenny went first, she chose blue, covered her right hand, and placed it on the wooden wall. John and Jack, one right and one left handed, chose red and went next. Kennedy chose orange.
Admiring their handy work Jenny glanced up to see Mom, standing in the doorway, lips pursed and eyes squinted tightly.
