Villain's Can't be Trusted

“First Mate Rogers bring me the glass and send Gunner Brady to the nest. This crew is dropping faster than bird slurry in a feeding frenzy,” Captain James Hardy barked. The First Mate returned with the spyglass, handing it to Hardy. The hours ticked away and land was yet to be spotted. The Captain paced restlessly about the fo’csle demanding the crew hold fast to their posts. “This dead sea shall pick up again and land lies just out of view,” he contended angrily.

And he was right; land was spotted and they soon had anchored in the cove of a small island. The ship was replenished with supplies. The crew was dismissed to enjoy the pleasures of the small village. Hardy also went into town and after a hearty meal, plenty of mead, and the pleasures of a whore he became bored.

“Rogers come with me! I saw a sweet young thing on the beach when we docked. I want her,” Captain Hardy demanded. The two pirates made their way from town along the beach and stood below the Governor’s Mansion. Rogers slipped into the home in search of the girl. He wandered a bit, but he’d tired of the Captain’s treatment of innocent young women and decided to tell Hardy that he could not find her.

Hardy grew impatient and tired of waiting. Unbeknownst to Rogers he followed him to help with the search. Hardy stumbled upon the girl in her bedchamber. Rogers was left to help complete the kidnap. He crept up behind her and shoved a scarf in her mouth and placed a cloth case over her head. They tied her and carried her away.

“Lock her up in my quarters and don’t take your eyes off of her. I’ll be back to claim her treasures as the sun comes up,” Hardy ordered and left to return to the pub.

“Aye, Aye Captain,” Rogers mouthed. He did as he was told, he didn’t dare try to cross the Captain, again. But upon the Captain’s return and the investigation of his quarters, they discovered the girl was gone.

“Rogers you have lost me my treasure! You were snoring to beat the brass when I arrived this morning and she has escaped. Who else knew she was here?” Hardy screamed.

Shaking, the First Mate’s beady eyes darted back and forth, trying to think of an excuse for his ineptness, “Brady helped me stow her. He must have saved her.”

“Brady was in town… I saw him!”

“She has vanished into thin air Captain; for I have the only key and it is still here in my pocket,” he groveled, producing the key.

“That still doesn’t release your culpability. I ordered you to keep watch and she is gone,” Hardy growled slowly turning to face Rogers. He had his pistol drawn and cocked. One shot rang out catching the First Mate square in the chest. He collapsed and died.
