Old Photos

The gray haired gentleman sat hunched over in his worn recliner. His medical literature piled in neat stacks on the end table alongside the chair and a dimly lit table lamp. He thumbed through the picture album of his life. First, he saw the bright blue eyed girl he’d swept off her feet and married. A tear rolled down his cheek. She’d passed a few days ago. Second, the rare family photo of his three children on a camping outing. They were all busy with their lives and he really hadn’t been much of an at home father. So, he didn’t expect them to be babysitting him now.

As he continued through the old photos he was conscious of his age. He held up his lined hands and smiled. He wondered if anyone guessed what his fingers had done, but there in black and white and some in color, were all the lives he’d brought into this world. Babies of all nationalities all over the world. He’d dedicated his life to helping the less fortunate.
