The Woods
Melissa crept through the woods. Her curiosity relieving her of all sanity and fear. The multicolored leaves with their pointy shapes crunched beneath her feet. She heard a howl off in the distance, but didn’t consider the danger. Her nose leaked, causing her to sniff loudly. “It’s colder out here than I anticipated,” she mumbled, not deterred on her mission.
“I know he came this way,” she thought, swinging the lantern out in front of her. “He was right there, not two minutes ago,” she marveled. “He’s done it to me again. I’ve followed him over and over again, always to this exact spot and poof, gone!”
“Randy… Randy, I’m not leaving until you show yourself,” she shouted and waited. “I mean it, I’m not leaving!”
Suddenly a hole opened up at her feet. She leaned in to gaze down through the leaves. It was dark, too dark to see anything. She lifted the lantern and eased it down into the hole. Her eyes followed the light as her arm stretched deeper and deeper into the hole. Before she realized her head was completely below ground. “What is down there? It looks like it opens into a large room like hole,” she marveled, with the sweep of the light she was yanked through the leaves and dirt, down below the surface and into a new world.
