Miracles Come When You Least Expect Them

“This lousy tire!” Missy screamed, throwing the lug wrench down in the dirt. “I’ve never been able to loosen lug nuts.”

Off in the distance a light flashed in the sky. Missy felt as if her picture was being taken and someone was laughing at her ineptness. She was angry as she sat on the hood of her Pontiac, watching the cars race by and the squiggles of lightning streak through the sky.

The storm was getting closer and no one found it in their hearts to stop and help her. The vibration of trucks and thunder rattled her to the core. Just then the hair stood up on her arms and neck. She breathed in and out, shivering and rubbed the fear out of herself. “I’ve got to have help,” she muttered. And again the hair stood only this time she felt the tingle of static electricity. “Weird!”

Missy looked up in the sky and all around her, seeing nothing but dark, ominous clouds. Lightning flashed, causing her to feel electrified. It was so close to her this time she didn’t see the squiggle, just a bright light filling the sky. The rain began to stream from the heavens. Missy dived into the front seat and proceeded to roll the windows up. Just as another flash exploded in the top of a tree, ten feet to her right. This time her skin prickled with energy, feeling burned and raw, followed up by the concussion, and then she passed out.

Missy awoke in the ER with scorch marks and a screaming headache. She heard a tray slam to the ground and instruments clatter across the floor. “What was that!” she jumped wide eyed.

“It’s okay dear! Someone dropped a metal tray on the floor,” the nurse assured her.

“But, I heard it… I haven’t heard anything since my car accident five years ago!” she chortled. “I actually heard it!” Missy was overcome with joy.
