Importance of Family and Friends

The table was covered in tasty, delectable treats from the sweetest sweets to several sizzling, hot pans of lasagna, made from a variety of fresh cheeses and homemade tomato sauce. Mom had spent weeks putting together another Christmas Eve gathering. She shopped for creamy stuffed chocolates from See’s Candy, shipped in shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico, and chopped a multitude of greens for an Italian salad. Guests brought in their favorites such as Macaroni salad, platters of fresh crisp vegetables, rolls, cookies, and handmade hard candies. Others brought chips and various dips; spinach, cheese, and guacamole.

Scented candles illuminated a festive flower arrangement in the midst of the food. It was made of Noble and White firs and Poinsettias. Brightly colored Christmas plates and napkins sat on the buffet with a caddy holding the silverware. At first glance the mind and taste buds watered with anticipation. Everyone was encouraged to eat, drink, and be merry at their leisure.

The entire family had gathered along with extended family and friends, making this the best meal ever. We laughed, loved, and ate for a few hours. Had we known it would be the last time we’d spend a Christmas with the woman who created the evening feast we would have savored it a bit longer.
